The 200 hours supervised practicum aims to provide students with opportunities for practical experiences in supervision within the context of an early childhood care and education setting. The objective is to assist the student to adopt a reflective approach to supervision and monitoring both in theory and practice. Through mentoring, journaling and constructive feedback, it will assist the students to reflect on the tasks of managing a centre through actual field experiences. Students will also learn to supervise through recording, assessing and evaluating early childhood care and education programmes.
Observation and reflection will form a large part of this period of practice. Each student will be assigned an approved Practicum Supervisor during this supervised practicum period.
At the end of the practicum, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate basic competencies expected of a leader in the early childhood profession
- Adopt a reflective approach to supervision and management of centre
- Fulfil their role, duties and responsibilities as a leader in the early childhood profession
- Upon recommendation or referral by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA)
