WSQ Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education

Course Overview

WSQ Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (WSQ PDECCE) is designed to equip preschool teachers with the relevant skills and knowledge for effective teaching and curriculum planning.

This programme is accredited by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA)

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, students will be able to: 

  1. Provide an overview of the preschool and national education systems in Singapore and their desired outcomes
  2. Analyse their roles in the facilitation and scaffolding of children’s learning in the early years
  3. Understand educational considerations that help various exceptional needs children to be more successful in their learning.
  4. Recognise the importance of including Parents and the Community in the care and education of young children
  5. Recognise the importance of safety, health, hygiene and nutrition aspects in the care and education of young children

Entry Requirements

Academic Requirements:

  • 5 GCE ‘O’ level credits

Language Requirements:

  • A grade C6 in GCE ‘O’ level English Language or any acceptable alternatives (For English programme)

Course Structure & Duration

The course comprises of 23 modules conducted over 30 months of a part-time study or 18 months of full-time study. Students are required to complete 900 classroom hours and 300 practicum hours.

Requirement for Award

Students must pass all prescribed modules and practicum and fulfil all requirements for graduation. Please refer to Student Handbook for more details.

Students who successfully complete all modules will be awarded the “WSQ Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education” by SkillsFuture Agency Singapore.

Delivery Mode and Assessment

The course is delivered through a variety of engaging, interactive and hands-on modes, which include face-to-face sessions, small group discussions, projects and role-play.

Assessments will be based on students’ performance in assignments – in the form of field research, case studies, journal writing, reflection, classroom discussions, in-class test, group work/presentation and practicum.
